Where to stay at Lake Tahoe (Nevada side)

Who the Nevada shore suits

Lake Tahoe's Nevada side (roughly one-third of the shoreline) suits travellers who want the lake with a casino option — Stateline's Hard Rock, Harrah's, Harveys and MontBleu cluster right at the California border. It suits skiers at Heavenly (base gondola in South Lake Tahoe, Nevada slopes above), Diamond Peak in Incline, and Mt. Rose on the pass. It suits summer beachgoers targeting Sand Harbor State Park, which has the most photogenic water in the lake but sells out parking by 10am. Zephyr Cove and Round Hill Pines have easier beach access with paid parking.

Who should skip it

Skip Tahoe if you are on a Nevada budget trip — nightly rates are simply not comparable to anywhere else in the state, and even mid-range motels in the Kingsbury area run $150+ in shoulder season. Skip it during a summer weekend without a reservation booked weeks ahead. Skip it in a Prius in January without chains — winter storms close US-50 and SR-431 regularly, and rental agencies can refuse Lake Tahoe drop-offs if you don’t have the right equipment. The east shore has almost no restaurants; you drive to Stateline or Incline for dinner.

What's within walking distance

From Stateline casino hotels you can walk to Heavenly Village gondola (5-10 minutes into California), the Stateline beaches (Nevada Beach is a 20-minute walk or 3-minute drive), Edgewood Tahoe's golf course, and a handful of restaurants clustered right at the border. From Zephyr Cove Resort you can walk to the Lake Tahoe Cruises MS Dixie II dock and Zephyr Cove Beach itself. From most other Nevada-side properties (Round Hill, Glenbrook area) there is no walkable dining and you need a car or the seasonal East Shore Express shuttle to Sand Harbor.
